HCEO Enforcement in Glasgow: After Your County Court Judgment
Transferring your CCJ to the High Court takes minutes. What follows is often far quicker than County Court enforcement.
Local court
Glasgow Sheriff Court
HCEO attendance
No advance notice
High Court transfer
Debts over £600
Winning a case does not guarantee payment
A County Court Judgment confirms the debt is real and legally established — but courts do not collect money for you. Debtors in Glasgow who choose to ignore a CCJ face no automatic financial consequence until a creditor applies for enforcement. Many creditors don't realise this until weeks or months have passed.
CCJ Enforcement in Glasgow
Local context — Glasgow Sheriff Court
Getting a CCJ in Glasgow proves the debt is real and legally established. What debtors in Scotland learn quickly is that a judgment they can ignore is a judgment they will ignore. Enforcement changes that calculation entirely — suddenly, there are officers who can attend their address, freeze their bank account, or take their goods. Glasgow's construction, retail and professional sectors are high-volume enforcement users. Enforcement is processed through the Glasgow Sheriff Court for the Glasgow area.
In Scotland, the equivalent process is called Diligence — enforced through the Sheriff Court at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Methods include Arrestment of bank accounts and wages, Attachment of moveable property, and Inhibition against property. A Sheriff Officer must be instructed to carry out Diligence on your behalf. The process is robust and legally enforceable across Scotland.
Four Ways to Enforce Your Judgment in Glasgow
The right method depends on what you know about the debtor. Our Enforcement Pack guides you to the most effective route for your situation.
High Court Enforcement Officer
Fastest — debts over £600Transfer your CCJ to the High Court (Form N293A) and instruct an HCEO. They can attend the debtor's premises without advance notice and have wider seizure powers than County Court bailiffs. Best for debts over £1,000.
Warrant of Control (Bailiff)
County Court enforcementApply for a Warrant of Control (Form N323) to send County Court enforcement agents to the debtor's address. They can seize goods of equivalent value. Effective when the debtor has physical assets or business premises.
Attachment of Earnings
Reliable for employed debtorsCourt orders the debtor's employer to deduct regular payments from their wages directly (Form N337). Payments come to you automatically until the judgment is fully satisfied. Cannot be used against self-employed debtors.
Third Party Debt Order
Freeze bank accountsFreezes the debtor's bank account and transfers funds directly to you (Form N349). Fast and decisive when the debtor has accessible savings or a business account. Requires knowledge of which bank the debtor uses.
Scotland note: In Scotland, enforcement is called Diligence and is carried out by Sheriff Officers following a Decree from the Sheriff Court at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Methods include Arrestment of bank accounts, Earnings Arrestment and Attachment of moveable property. Our pack covers the Scottish process separately.

How Enforcement Works in Glasgow
Choose your enforcement method
Based on what you know about the debtor — employment status, property ownership, banking — choose the most likely method. Our Enforcement Pack helps you make the right decision for your specific situation in Glasgow.
Apply to the correct court
Enforcement applications are made at Glasgow Sheriff Court for the Glasgow area. For High Court enforcement, you first complete Form N293A to transfer the CCJ, then instruct a High Court Enforcement Officer directly.
Enforcement action is taken
Once your application is processed, the enforcement agent — whether an HCEO, County Court bailiff, or the court itself (for Attachment of Earnings) — takes action against the debtor. In most cases, the debtor is informed at this point and has a final opportunity to pay.
Payment is recovered
Funds reach you either directly (HCEO, Third Party Debt Order) or through regular deductions (Attachment of Earnings). If the debtor has genuine assets and you have chosen the right enforcement method, recovery is reliable.
